Meaning so much to others at a given moment...

For the meaning of life differs from man to man, from day to day and from hour to hour. What matters, therefore, is not the meaning of life in general but rather the specific meaning of a person's life at a given moment.                                                                    Viktor E. Frankl

Thanks to Anonymous for their selfless act and for meaning so much to others in their time of need in that moment, for that is the true meaning of life!!!!

On November 21st the bishopric member conducting the meeting announced that there were 11 families in their ward who, because of their financial circumstances, needed help from the ward to provide Thanksgiving dinners. He said that they had 11 turkeys but nothing else, so he asked the ward members to look through their pantries and see if there was anything they could contribute to some one's Thanksgiving dinner. He said that he would have a "food drop-off" box on his porch on Monday and Tuesday, and hoped to get groceries to the families by Wednesday.
I was surprised at the number. Eleven families seemed like a lot. Unemployment is high in that area because so many of the people there worked in the construction industry, which has pretty much dried up these days.
I decided to provide Thanksgiving dinner for six of those families. We went shopping on Monday morning and bought stuffing mixes, Rhodes rolls, packages of butter, pumpkin pies, whipped cream, olives, carrots, jello & fruit, and potatoes. We agreed that I would drop off the food, since the bishopric counselor didn't know me, and we wanted to stay anonymous.
When I got to his home and saw the "food drop-off" box, I almost cried. It had a can of corn and a can of cranberries in it; that was it. I started filling the box with groceries, but there was too much to fit in the box, so I started piling grocery bags on the tiny porch and then on the steps. I was glad it was a cold day because I worried about the frozen stuff, but when we drove past an hour later, everything had been taken inside the house.
Sunday the bishop announced that they were able to provide dinner for everyone who needed it, and thanked everyone for their contributions. We were glad that we could do something to help. It wasn't much, compared to what other people contribute to society, but we hope it made a difference to six families anyway.
